Testing Testing…

When I first got into photography this time last year, I was instantly attracted to the endless amount of possibilities to be innovative through picture. I’ve come to realize that the only way to test the boundaries of innovation is to think outside of the box, and add a twist. That “twist” is what will divide your work from the standard, and could possibly be labeled “innovative”.

In an effort to stay alive creatively, I have started doing my own personal test shoots. Of course the goal will be to see growth with each test shoot, but to also prepare me for similar jobs, and to brand the style of photographer I aspire to be. This past weekend I was able to test shoot with model, and good friend, Michele Eley. The goal with this shoot was to work on story telling, and to also test out different settings with the camera (ones I’m too afraid to test on customers lol). See what we were able to accomplish below.

Video Vs. Photo

Photography and videography are complimentary to each other and capture completely different elements. Over the past couple of months I’ve noticed that the demand for video is much higher than photos.

So which element is most important when branding an artist or business? Video is ideal for capturing sounds, movements and emotions. Photography captures beauty and style. As much as I enjoy photography over video production, I have to say that I agree with the masses when a video is requested over a photo shoot because of the overall impact of the imagery.

The opportunity to be creative is equal between each element. I feel with video, the subject is able to brand his or herself by showing personality (the most important element to branding). A photograph can actually make a bigger impact because of the questions left unanswered within the photograph, resulting in further research by the consumer.

Whichever approach you take when promoting your product or service, just remember to add a creative twist. That creative twist will be what people remember about the visual.

These are BTS photos of the Mr. Make Moves video shoot. The weather was perfect and Woodbridge came out to show support. What was great about this shoot was the perfect timing of the day… and the excitement that came from being around other creative and motivated people. Stimulating environment to be in. Video coming soon… bouncing down as I type this lol.

One of the richest elements about the D.C area is the truth that this is a place where talents flourish. Up and coming pop artist Devin White is an example.
